Home of Barralban Leonbergers
Passionate about all animals we aim to provide all our pets with the best care to ensure a long and happy life with us.
We fell in love with the Leonberger breed after visiting Crufts and Discover Dogs for several years when we lived down south. Then following much research and once we had moved to Cumbria, we got our first Leo, Bramble from Jantonely Leos in Nottinghamshire in 2007. Bramble is a large bitch weighing 52 kgs (Her father is Caspar H Bora z Miloticek at Jantonely). She is such a loyal loving dog who loves sitting on your lap and just has to be in the same room as you no matter what you are doing! (She is sitting on the sofa at the moment watching me write this website.)
What an amazing breed they truly are - along with a wonderful temperament they just love being part of the family and enjoy the company of other dogs (and cats in our case!). You can't be houseproud when you have a Leo, they are big dogs and although they are one of the giant breeds who don't drool, they do have a wonderful coat which does shed a lot and a big swishy tail, so no ornaments at Leo level!
As all Leonberger owners know, one is never enough (some people call them the Pringle breed) so, true to form, we added a further two Leos to our family in February 2009. We got Ilse and Eva our next two girls from Leonmoor and are really pleased with how they are progressing. Grant and Mandy Saggers at Leonmoor were extremely helpful, informative and professional.
We have had other dogs in the past but the Leonberger is something special and if you are interested in this breed we would advise you to do your research by having a look at the Leonberger Club of Great Britain website for more details before buying a puppy.
The health of our dogs is paramount, so to this end, I studied animal care and am very proud of achieving distinction in the ABC Small Animal Care Certificate, I have great contacts at the local veterinary hospital where I used to work, so have lots of professionals to call upon when the need arises! I will continue to learn as much as possible about the breed, dog health and behaviour in general.
We hope to breed from Bramble later this year. We will be looking for a suitable stud dog soon.
If you are interested in a puppy from any future litters please complete the questionaire and we will be in touch with you shortly.
